Recently a coal mine called rookie consultant, Chase Brown (18 months) asking if a belt drive shaft could be restored to its original dimensions by using the sprocket that goes on it to reform the shaft. Chase went underground with two maintenance guys and showed them how to build up the drive shaft using Belzona® 1111 (Super Metal). They proceeded to grind the OD of the drive shaft and ID of the sprocket, then cleaned with Belzona® 9111 (cleaner/degreaser) to achieve a clean, rough, and dry subsrate. Next, Belzona® 1111 (Super Metal) was applied to the OD of the drive shaft, and to the ID of the sprocket. Then the components were reassembled and left to cure over the weekend while the belt was down.
In the end, the belt drive was restored to proper working order saving the company thousands of dollars on replacement costs and downtime. The customer was so happy with that repair they did four more.
